Chief Editor, Kitchenware Testing Team

Nathan Miller

I’m Chief Editor at The Kitchenware Journal, where I lead our testing team and still get in the kitchen myself for reviews and buying guides across cookware, small appliances, and kitchen tools. I spent years working the line as a professional chef before moving into culinary writing, and that background still shapes how I test and how I train the rest of the team to test.

What I Test For

I evaluate equipment the way a working chef would: does it earn its spot, or does it just take up drawer space? Across the reviews and guides I oversee, the standard stays the same — durability under repeated use, real-world functionality over spec-sheet claims, and whether the price matches the value it delivers to a home cook. As Chief Editor, I also set the testing standards the rest of the team follows, so ratings stay comparable from one review to the next.

Where a product falls outside my own direct testing, I say so and point to where the supporting data comes from — verified owner feedback, manufacturer specs, or reporting from other trusted kitchen publications. My hands-on experience leads; outside sources fill gaps, never replace it.

Areas of Expertise

  • Cast iron and stainless cookware
  • Woks and stir-fry pans
  • Commercial and home coffee equipment
  • Editorial standards and testing methodology
  • Product value assessment for home cooks at every skill level

Editorial Standards

My recommendations, and the team’s, are independent of commercial relationships. The Kitchenware Journal earns commission through Amazon and other affiliate links, but that never determines which products I recommend or how I score them. A product that underperforms in my testing doesn’t get a pass because of an affiliate relationship.
